Brewing Learning: Economics Class Launches Student-Run Café

Something new (and energizing) has arrived at TDChristian!

On November 24, the Economics class, in collaboration with the other Business classes and with support from many people around the school, officially launched TDCafé, a student-run initiative blending entrepreneurship, creativity, and service. Supported by the Project Fund for Deserving TDChristian Initiatives, TDCafé is more than a place to grab a drink at lunch. It’s a living classroom: a place where learning meets real-world experience.

A Grand Opening with Happy, Hydrated Customers

The first day at TDCafé’s was busy! Roughly 40 students and staff lined up to try the menu, from iced lattes to hot chocolate. The first day favourites? The Falcon: a maple matcha named in honour of our school mascot, and the always-popular Iced Chai Latte.

By the end of the first day, students were reflecting on how to streamline procedures, speed up drink prep, and create a smooth, welcoming experience for everyone.

Where Learning Meets Mission

What makes this café truly special is its foundation. The idea began as a seed grant proposal, written by the students themselves. Their vision? To build a sustainable lunch-hour café that gives the TDChristian community convenient, affordable drinks while providing hands-on learning in budgeting, purchasing, pricing, marketing, and management.

A portion of the café’s profits will be donated to Scott Mission, allowing students to translate economic lessons into meaningful service.

A Project Fund in Action

The café is funded through the Project Fund for Deserving TDChristian Initiatives—a donor-supported fund that empowers student-led ideas like this one. The Economics class plans to repay the seed grant through café revenue, treating it as a loan.

If you’d like to support innovative, student-driven initiatives like this one, consider donating to the Project Fund for Deserving TDChristian Initiatives. Your generosity helps turn ideas into experiences that shape students’ lives, faith, and future.
