Ever since TDChristian turned 50 in 2012-13, we’ve chosen a Bible passage as a theme each year,
with one verse to focus on.
This year we chose the familiar verses in Philippians 4:4-9; they begin with “Rejoice in the Lord always” (NIV) and include “Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable” (NLT). The passage ends with “Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.”
Looking at what Paul wrote in Philippians as he sought to serve Jesus, the following list of things to keep putting into practice emerges:
- overflowing with love
- growing in knowledge
- understanding what matters
- being selfless
- conducting ourselves in a manner worthy of the GoodNews
- being humble
- taking an interest in others
- having Christ’s attitude
- doing everything without arguing or complaining
- shining like bright lights
- holding firmly to God’s word
- standing together with one spirit and purpose
Quite a list! Thankfully, TDChristian is a community where we encourage each other to continue practising what we do well and work on improving what we do not. This year, we’ll seek to keep putting into practice more and better ways to learn for service in the light of God’s word.
Please pray for us as we seek to honour God in all we do in 2024-25!
