Devotion 9: Jesus’ Resurrection (Easter Devotions Project)

By: Julia Jopling, Fifth Year

Passage: Matthew 28:1 to 8

“… go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He [Jesus] has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’” Matthew 28:7

The Lord is always at work and will bring to pass what he wills despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

In Matthew 28:1 to 8, the two Marys who visit Jesus’ tomb believe they are going there to anoint Jesus dead body. They leave the tomb with a directive to tell the other disciples that Jesus is risen. He is ALIVE!

Throughout his life, Jesus challenged assumpMons and enlightened people, while being the perfect example of perfect love. Rising from the grave was completely in character for the God-Man who lived his whole life for God’s glory. However, we, Christ’s followers, can have trouble staying focused on what matters: God’s will for God’s people and creation.

Despite daily mistakes, difficult seasons of life, and our nature to sin, the Lord always uses his servants to bring about his will – ultimately leading to the flourishing of all people and all creation. Imagine that – we get to take part in enacting God’s great plan for all his people. It is because of Jesus’ resurrection. What a gift!

Prayer

Holy God, we thank you for sending your Son. We are thankful that Christ paid the price for the sin of the whole world when he died. We are more thankful that on the third day, Jesus rose to life.

We ask that you help us to honour you in everything we do, that you show us the way through obstacles, and that you give us the energy to be salt and light in a world that needs you more than anything else.

In Jesus’s name, Amen.
